Brenda's Nuts & Bolts
Combine half a pouch of spice blend with 2 cups of vegetable oil or melted butter and 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce. Pour over desired mix and bake in roasting pan at 275 degrees stirring every 20 minutes for 2 hours.
We love a blend of chex/crispix, shreddies, cheerios, goldfish, popcorn, peanuts, and pretzels. But any dried cereal or salty snack works great. The above recipe makes a huge batch perfect for holidays. Use approximately 3 standard-size boxes of cereal and 4 cups total of other snacks.
Kasandra's Mulling Spices
Tie spices in cheesecloth, muslin bag, or tea strainer. Or use a fine mesh sieve after simmering. To make mulled red wine combine 750 mL of red wine with 2-3 heaped tbsp of spice blend, and 1/3 cup sugar or honey. Simmer on low heat for 30 minutes. Strain and serve. To make mulled apple cider combine 8 cups of apple cider with 2-3 heaped tbsp of spice blend. Bring to a boil, lower the heat, and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain and serve.
Debbie's Simmer Pot
The best way to make your home smell absolutely wonderful without using any artificial fragrances. Simply simmer the contents of the bag in 4-6 cups of water on low, adding more water as needed. To reuse, simply drain water and store contents in the fridge and use within a few days.
Helen's Spiced Nuts
Toast 3 cups of unsalted cashews or other nuts at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, watching carefully to ensure they don’t burn. In a saucepan bring 1/4 cup of water, 5 tbsp of spice blend, and 1 tbsp of butter to a boil, stirring constantly. Add nuts, stir to coat, and simmer until no liquid remains. Spread nuts on a baking sheet and roast for 10 minutes until the coating is dry.
