Sumac has a sharp, acidic and fruity taste which gives flavour to Middle Eastern salads like Fattoush and Za'atar spice blend. Not a particularly aromatic spice, but adds a pleasing souring element, brightening any dish. Can be used as a seasoning, sprinkled on top of dishes like salt to bring out flavours. We dare you to sprinkle it on some hummus.
